Escape

Grief comes in waves.

Soothing waves on a calm summer day

or rough waves on a stormy day that could cause a boat to sink.

Grief is like a parasite.

It latches on to you.

It can control you.

Should you let it win, or should you fight?

Grief is an intense feeling.

A feeling that leaves your stomach heavy.

Your heart with a giant hole in it.

Sometimes it feels like you can’t breathe.

You’re gasping for air.

You’re looking for a reason to keep your head held high.

You can only think of what you could have done to save that ship from sinking.

There is nothing you could have done to save it.

Your mind wanders as you try to put the puzzle pieces together.

The pieces don’t always fit.

Your head is above water.

Your ship begins to sink.

Will you save yourself?

Or will you go down with your ship?
