Two Pennies in the Rain
In the dark depths of the pavement puddles
Lay a pocketful of change sprawled in a
Glittering fountain of rust and dirt.
Make a wish, they whisper.
Throw a penny over your shoulder
And ward off the evil of the world.
Good luck ends up here, on the
Ground.
In the asphalt.
So I pick up my wishes and luck
And I nestle them safely in my pocket.
But then, on those days when the world
Seems against you and you need some foolish
Hope
I throw them back into the street,
Making my wishes and over my shoulder to
Ward off the future.
And there they remain.
Two pennies in the rain.
