An American Sonnet
American kids, we walk alone,
spoon-fed on a vintage education.
We won't learn there is much unknown,
losing sight of our dedication.
Society is a mousetrap abyss,
it's pulling others in, throwing us out.
Surely though they can see we don't want this.
You'll be an outcast if you drop out.
The pressure isn't always negative. Growth.
The leaders of our country know the truth,
maybe it's all in our heads; self-loathing.
We spend too much time trying to disprove.
Remember, it's called the American Dream.
Doesn't it seem more like a balance beam?
