The Heart Without a Key

~Parker Riordan

I often struggle to comprehend sadness.
Like an animal in a frenzy, full of madness--
seeing a man miserably die--
but to me just another day passes by.

How can I be upset if I don't know,
don't know where overwhelming emotions should go?

It's not on my face and it's not on my smile.
Instead it just drowns me
like a flood stretching for miles.

My sympathy is locked like a dungeon
I can't flee, because my heart is
the heart without a key.
