Thoughts to Live By

I believe a flower is beautiful because it doesn’t last.
I believe the journey is better than the destination.
We pave a path with our bare hands and allow others to walk it.
I believe a toll is required.
I believe appearance is defined by perspective; true charm is sonorous and found in contempt.
I believe a man in a skirt is as normal as a woman in pants.
I believe “normal” is undefined and should remain so.
I believe the inside is more important than the outside; it’s where the squishy bits are.
I believe “the heart” is in the brain, and the pulsing muscle in my chest is easier to break.
I believe knowledge should be given to those with wisdom.
Wisdom is not inherent.
I believe light defines us, and shadow beguiles us.
We shun the dark because we know it is part of us.
I believe humanity is flawed and everyone is broken; it is all a matter of how cracked one is.
I believe our cracks make us human instead of God; that is good.
I believe the breaks and missing chunks let us fit like puzzle pieces; only one person has a perfect match.
I believe our atoms have been split apart and put back together so many times they are no longer ours.
I believe we are not the first universe nor the last, and not the only reality.
I believe we are not alone.
I believe in cracks and edges.
I believe in straight lines and curves.
I believe in connections; in interlocking rings and triple-knots.
I believe in matching pieces to see the picture; but seeing the trees in the forest.
I believe in the specks of sand that make up a beach.
I believe we are someone’s specks.
