Welcome to the Spring 2024 edition of WORD., Bishop Kearney's literary magazine. We are proud of the student writers represented here, and the variety of genres that compose this magazine. From an argumentative essay by senior Gabbi Nitti, to a solar-eclipse inspired short play by sophomore Josephine McNally, from poetry to narrative, the topics and themes run the gamut from friendship, technology, our sense of self, and even our own mortality. As we witness the rise of AI in education and face its challenges, it is more important than ever to support original student voices. It is poetry, prose, drama that have sustained the humanities for decades. We can't outsource the human heart, and all the creativity it possesses. These young writers are proof that voice and expression are important, and that, as Friedrich Nietzsche said, "A good writer possesses not only his own spirit but also the spirit of his friends."
